Brazilian Central Bank (BC) announced, on Thursday (6), new rules for Pix, with the aim of increasing the security of the system and hindering the action of scammers. The main change requires that the names of people and companies linked to the Pix keys are exactly in compliance with the CPF and CNPJ records of the Federal Revenue Service.
With this, financial and payment institutions must ensure that the data is correct whenever there are movements such as registration, change of information, portability or claim of possession of a Pix key. In addition, the BC will delete keys associated with CPFs and CNPJs with irregular situation, such as:
CPFs: suspended, canceled, null or deceased holders;
CNPJs: suspended, unfit, downloaded or void.
Another significant change is that email-type Pix keys can no longer be transferred to another holder. Only keys linked to mobile numbers will continue with this functionality, allowing the transfer of prepaid numbers between users.
In addition, the information linked to the random keys can no longer be changed. If a user needs to modify any data, it will be necessary to delete the old key and create a new one.
To ensure compliance with the new rules, the BC announced that it will constantly monitor financial institutions and may apply penalties to those who do not follow security protocols. The municipality will also act directly to identify and delete keys that present inconsistencies in the records.
Another important change involves the return of values via Pix. Until then, transactions initiated on unregistered devices were limited to R$ 200. Now, the BC will allow returns made in good faith by the recipient to be made without this restriction, facilitating the reimbursement of payments.
The Central Bank assured that the new rules do not change the way people and companies send or receive Pix, but increase security requirements. According to the BC, the main intention is to make fraud difficult and ensure that all keys are associated with verified and reliable data.
