Chamber Leadership Denies Protection to Flávio Bolsonaro’s Running Mate in Blatant Political Retaliation
By Hotspotnews
Is this institutional sabotage or partisan payback? Chamber of Deputies President Hugo Motta has coldly rejected the request for Legislative Police escort for Deputy Alfredo Gaspar, the vice-presidential candidate on Senator Flávio Bolsonaro’s ticket. This is not governance. This is retaliation dressed up as bureaucracy. So you know, in the US, after the candidates are confirmed they get Secret service detail. President and Vice President.
Gaspar, a former public prosecutor, two-time Attorney General of Justice in Alagoas, and former state Public Security Secretary, has spent his career confronting organized crime and exposing corruption. As rapporteur of the CPMI on INSS fraud, he produced a report that named powerful figures connected to the current administration. For that courage, he was immediately hit with explosive accusations he and Flávio Bolsonaro have repeatedly denounced as fabricated political theater. Now, as he steps onto the national stage alongside Flávio, the same institutional machinery denies him basic campaign security.
Motta’s office claims the rules only allow protection for risks tied to a deputy’s current mandate, not for a vice-presidential candidacy. Convenient. Presidential candidates are supposed to receive Federal Police protection, yet Flávio has already declined that option out of principle. Gaspar asked only for the same institutional support the Chamber provides its own members when risks rise. Instead, he was told no.
The timing and the players make the motive obvious. Motta has publicly aligned himself with President Lula’s reelection bid even as his own party declared neutrality. While the opposition campaigns under heightened threats in a polarized country, the Speaker who now courts the Planalto finds technical reasons to leave Flávio’s running mate more exposed. Gaspar’s response was characteristically direct and unbowed: he will not beg, he trusts Motta’s assessment that there is supposedly “no risk,” and he will continue fighting crime and corruption with courage and the protection of God.
This is how institutions are weaponized. A man with a documented record of confronting criminals and powerful interests is told the House he serves will not stand behind him during a national campaign. If anything happens on the trail, the responsibility will sit squarely with those who chose rules over reality and politics over protection.
Patriots see it clearly. This is not neutral administration of rules. This is selective vulnerability imposed on the opposition. Brazilians who value security, accountability, and fair elections should take note.
