The regime publicly calls for the destruction of Israel, chants “Death to America,” executes political prisoners and women in public squares, and pursues nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian program. Yet Brazil’s current leadership prefers to criticize the nations defending themselves rather than the dictatorship that sponsors global terror. Adding to the outrage, photographs have surfaced showing Vice President Geraldo Alckmin attending events in the company of individuals linked to Hamas—a group officially designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, Canada, and others.
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has refused to remain silent. In a forceful bilingual statement, he declared Lula’s position “unacceptable” and accused the government of placing Brazil “on the wrong side of a serious conflict” by offering political cover to Tehran. Flávio pointed to Iran’s long history of financing terrorism, crushing domestic dissent, and threatening strategic partners across the Gulf—nations such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, and Qatar—that maintain growing commercial and diplomatic relations with Brazil. He also emphasized Israel’s right to self-defense against an existential threat.
“Prudence in foreign policy does not mean moral blindness,” Flávio wrote. “Restraint does not require turning a blind eye to regimes that export terror, destabilize entire regions, and seek apocalyptic weapons.” His words cut through the diplomatic fog that has clouded Lula’s administration: neutrality cannot be used as an excuse to appease evil.
Flávio Bolsonaro’s intervention is more than partisan rhetoric.
