Lula wants to focus on the police and ignores the organized crime
The decree signed by Lula, establishes new guidelines for the use of the police force, is the target of strong criticism for focusing its actions on the control of police forces, while nothing mentions measures aimed at confronting crime. The decision generated reactions from governors and public security experts, who point out a position of distrust of the federal government towards the police, a total absence of proposals to combat organized crime. Then again, what part of Lula being a man condemned by past crimes, you don’t understand? Did you expect anything different?
The text makes it a condition for the transfer of resources from the National Public Security Fund which states compliance with rules aimed at reducing the use of force by the police, such as the use of firearms as a “last resort”. He ignores the context in which Brazilian police operate: facing armed gangs with rifles, organized drug lords and traffickers and high excessive rates of urban violence.
what amazes is that the criminals have modern and advanced armaments, more lethal than the police has. Nobody is asking how and why they have them, how it is purchased, or where. It is obvious, that someone in the government is looking the other way, allowing crime to be more powerful. There are no limits! Is this Gotham City? Where is Batman? The situation is bad all around.
Governor Ronaldo Caiado, pointed out that the excessive focus on controlling the police disregards the Brazilian reality. “We’re not in Sweden. We are dealing with violent criminals, who wage war against the Democratic Rule of Law,” For him, the Lula government seems more concerned with regulating the police than offering concrete solutions to reduce the power of organized crime.
Lula wants to rule for the police force, not control crime! The decree does not present proposals to fight crime, or to strengthening investigations, repression of drug and arms trafficking, strategies to dismantle criminal organizations . Nothing to give the remote idea of fighting crime was not contemplated in the document. Absurd!
The conditioning of federal funds to comply with the decree is another sensitive point. For critics, this represents an attempt to centralize the control of public safety, traditionally the responsibility of the states. In addition, the creation of a monitoring committee raises fears of political rigging, being described as a possible “ideological pressure mechanism”.
Governors have already shown concern about the use of these rules as a tool to weaken state administrations and impose an agenda more aligned with the federal government. Meaning, less regard for the law. Brazil is corrupted.
