Jose Riveiro, the coach of Orlando Pirates, led a team filled with Bucs players to victory in the Carling All Stars match, defeating Carling Knockout champions Magesi 3-0 on Saturday. The Spaniard was once again chosen to lead the special team selected for the exhibition game held at Orlando Stadium.
The youthful team, picked by the fans in the second annual Carling Black Label Cup, was led by Bucs goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, who played alongside teammate Relebohile Mofokeng in the starting lineup. The Pirates representation in the team also included current Academy players Mbekezile Mbokazi and Jabulani Mokone, who helped strengthen the defense.
Former teammates in the Bucs Reserves squad, Mofokeng and Mokone, were both active in the early stages of the game. They both took shots at Elvia Chipezeze’s goal within the first five minutes, with Mokone even forcing a save from the Zimbabwean goalkeeper.
After breaking through the defense, the All Stars quickly scored three goals in the first half. Naledi Hlongwane scored twice, with Samkelo Zwane adding another goal.
Mofokeng had an opportunity to score in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net. Maswanganyi entered the game in the first half, while Tshegofatso Mabasa and Bucs Reserves player Seth Green joined in the second half. Although they had some good moments in the later stages of the match, they were unable to score.
As the game progressed towards the final whistle, Chaine’s goal remained secure, and the All Stars maintained their three-goal lead to secure the win.
