Political Threats and Recent Violence Require Prompt Investigation

By Hotspotnews

Four days before recordings from an X Spaces titled “GAYS COM LULA” began circulating on October 10, 2026, a concrete act of violence with an alleged political motive occurred in Paranaíba, Mato Grosso do Sul. On the night of October 6, a 52-year-old man who identified himself to police as a PT supporter stabbed a 36-year-old man he described as a Bolsonaro supporter during an argument in a bar. The suspect left the location, retrieved a knife approximately 25 centimeters long from his vehicle, and stabbed the victim in the left hip and back area. Bystanders disarmed him. The victim was hospitalized and remained stable. Police registered the case as attempted homicide and intentional bodily injury, with the alleged political motivation under investigation.

On October 10, posts shared a recording from the “GAYS COM LULA” Spaces in which participants were alleged to have discussed locating and physically assaulting deputies Eduarda Campopiano and Júlia Zanatta, using the phrase “dar uma surra nelas.” The shared video shows the Spaces interface and participant list. The precise statements about assault are the claim made by those circulating the material. No public confirmation of account suspensions or content removals specifically tied to this session has been issued by the platform.

The sequence is material. An actual stabbing with a claimed political motive occurred in the same period as the public circulation of audio in which specific elected officials are allegedly named for physical attack. Brazilian law already criminalizes threats of unjust and grave harm under Article 147 of the Penal Code. Additional rules address political violence and gender-based political violence against candidates and officeholders, including provisions under Law 14.192/2021 and related electoral statutes. Credible statements that identify named individuals and discuss carrying out assault fall outside ordinary political criticism and can be examined as potential threats or related offenses.

Recordings preserve evidence that police and prosecutors can review while identification of speakers and assessment of intent remain feasible. Delay increases the difficulty of verification. Platforms can act on reported content that violates rules against threats once the material is confirmed. The practical requirement is prompt examination of the audio, identification of participants where possible, and investigation of any related offline acts. The same standard applies to threats or violence originating from any political direction. The immediate facts—an offline attack with alleged political motive followed by circulating claims of targeted assault on named deputies—illustrate why verification and enforcement cannot wait for further incidents.
