U.S. President Donald Trump has offered for the United States to be responsible for the reconstruction of Gaza, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today, after the president proposed assistance with the matter
Rubio, speaking at a press conference in Guatemala City, said it was a unique offer to step in and clear debris and remove the destruction vision in Gaza, suggesting to relocate the people, while it is rebuilt. He said it was not meant as a hostile move and that details still needed to be worked out.
President Donald Trump’s top aides defended his proposal for the U.S. to clear the war-ruined Gaza and create a Middle East Riviera” after relocating Palestinians elsewhere, during the reconstruction.
President Trump received criticism from countries like Russia, China and Germany, which said it would foster “new suffering and new hatred.” Regional heavyweight Saudi Arabia showed concerns.
During his meeting with Netanyahu, President Trump share his vision of building a resort where international communities could live in harmony after nearly 16 months of war.
During a briefing today, Press secretary Karoline Leavitt spoke about his Gaza proposal as “historic” and “outside of the box” and stressed that the president had not made a commitment to putting “boots on the ground”. She declined, however, to rule out potential use of U.S. troops there.
