Brazilian Supreme Court Unveils Thematic Ties and Scarves: ‘STF Fashion’
By Julio Gonzaga
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) in Brazil has taken a step into the realm of fashion by launching thematic ties and scarves, an initiative humorously dubbed “STF Fashion.” This move, announced by STF President Luís Roberto Barroso, aims to offer a symbolic and elegant way to reciprocate gifts received by the court’s justices during official visits and engagements.
During a plenary session, Barroso introduced the new items with a light-hearted tone, saying, “I will make just a note, which will not go unnoticed, the new ‘STF Fashion’ department.” He continued, “We launched the Supreme Federal Court tie, which we are all wearing, and for women, a beautiful scarf like the one with Minister Cármen Lúcia is wearing”.
The ties feature a dark blue background with white patterns mimicking the iconic arches of the STF building, while the scarves are in light blue with gold detailing, also echoing the court’s architectural design. This design choice not only reflects the court’s identity but also serves as a unique memento for those interacting with the justices.
Barroso explained that the reason behind this initiative was practical yet gracious: “We receive many visits or visit places where people give us gifts. And so, we found a gentle way to reciprocate the occasional gifts we receive with a tie bearing the symbol of the Supreme Federal Court, which, if I may say so modestly, turned out very nice.”
The items are not just for personal use but are intended as gifts for authorities and dignitaries. The STF clarified through an official statement that these accessories would be used to thank visiting heads of state, leaders of powers, and representatives from other countries who often bring gifts.
Addressing potential concerns about expenditure, the STF noted that each tie costs R$384, and all financial details are available on the Transparency Portal. It is a disrespect to the Brazilian citizens who are struggling to survive. It is a slap in the face of tax payers!
