STF SHATTERED: “GHOST SATURDAY” SCANDAL EXPOSES MORAES RUSHING EDUARDO BOLSONARO’S JAIL ORDER IN BLATANT DEADLINE AMBUSH

By Hotspotnews

A legal bombshell has detonated inside the Supreme Federal Court, with defense lawyers hurling a blistering habeas corpus that accuses Minister Alexandre de Moraes of steamrolling the law itself to lock in the punishment of former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro. The filing by attorneys Victor Travancas, Leonardo Aragão and Ralph Lichotti paints a picture of a court whose clock spins at warp speed whenever it suits the narrative against the Bolsonaro family, turning due process into an afterthought.

At the heart of the outrage sits the so-called “ghost Saturday.” Official records show the Public Defender’s Office was only formally notified of key developments on Friday, October 2, 2026. Under Brazilian law the Defensoria enjoys double the ordinary deadline, which would have given the defense until October 14 to file further challenges. Yet a certificate declaring the judgment final was mysteriously issued the very next day — a Saturday — and Moraes wasted no time using that document to order the start of the four-year, two-month sentence and the issuance of an arrest warrant on October 7. The defense calls it an unprecedented trampling of the calendar, an execution order signed while the legal window for contestation was still open.

The petition goes further, cataloguing what it describes as a cascade of irregularities: the wholesale cancellation of Eduardo Bolsonaro’s Brazilian passports without a single line of legal foundation or any concrete finding of flight risk; glaring geographic contradictions in which the court treated the defendant as residing at an uncertain address for service of process yet acted with surgical precision to strip his documents abroad; and material errors ranging from mismatched fine calculations to the citation of the wrong public body. To keep the habeas corpus out of the hands of the very minister who signed the contested orders, the lawyers invoked STF Resolution 921 and demanded free distribution to the full Plenary, excluding Moraes as the alleged coercing authority.

The underlying conviction itself stems from the First Panel’s finding that Eduardo, while in the United States, sought to pressure Brazilian authorities through foreign sanctions in connection with the proceedings against his father. Mainstream accounts treat the judgment as having become final after the rejection of embargos de declaração. The new filing, however, insists the haste to declare finality and trigger imprisonment measures reveals something darker than bureaucratic haste — a justice that operates outside the ordinary rules when the target is inconvenient.

Whether the Plenary will examine the claims or simply close ranks remains to be seen. For critics of the Court, the episode has already become Exhibit A of a process in which deadlines, notifications and basic procedural safeguards appear optional. The ball is now with the full bench of the STF: error of the secretariat or the echo of a court that refuses to be bound by the very law it is sworn to uphold.
