Defending Democracy: The Baseless Persecution of Jair Bolsonaro

    By Hotspotnews

    Injustice

Let’s dissect the accusations. Gonet alleges that discussions about so-called “coup documents” during the meeting constitute evidence of a plot to overthrow the government. But what are these documents? Mere drafts or hypothetical scenarios that never materialized into action. Bolsonaro’s son, Eduardo, rightly points out that labeling such conversations as criminal intent lacks any objective basis. In a nation where military consultations are a routine part of executive duties—enshrined in the constitution itself—this reeks of selective prosecution. It’s as if discussing national security contingencies is now tantamount to treason, a dangerous precedent that could chill free speech and strategic planning for any leader.

The timing couldn’t be more suspicious. These allegations surface amid ongoing investigations by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) into the January 8, 2023, events, where Bolsonaro supporters protested what many viewed as a flawed election process. Critics on the left paint these as an “uprising” orchestrated by Bolsonaro, ignoring the peaceful nature of the vast majority of participants and the lack of direct involvement from the former president. Instead of addressing legitimate concerns about electoral integrity, the establishment has pivoted to smears, aiming to silence a man who championed conservative values like family, faith, and fiscal responsibility during his tenure.

Bolsonaro’s presidency was a beacon for conservatives worldwide. He slashed burdensome regulations, bolstered the economy through pro-market reforms, and stood unapologetically against socialist encroachment. His administration prioritized law and order, cracking down on crime and corruption that had plagued Brazil for decades. Yet, for these achievements, he’s repaid with endless probes and character assassinations. This isn’t justice; it’s a witch hunt designed to disqualify him from future political runs and intimidate his base.

Pro-Bolsonaro voices on social media and in the streets echo this sentiment: the judiciary’s overreach is the real threat to democracy. By pressuring military commanders or interpreting private meetings as conspiracies, prosecutors like Gonet are engaging in the very authoritarian tactics they claim to oppose. Where is the evidence of actual mobilization? Of orders given or actions taken? Absent these, the case crumbles into nothing more than political theater.

As conservatives, we recognize that true threats to democracy come not from robust debate or patriotic leadership, but from institutions that bend to ideological whims. Bolsonaro’s defense is our defense—of a Brazil where leaders can govern without fear of retroactive criminalization. Let us rally behind him, demanding fairness and transparency, and reject this farce for what it is: an assault on conservative ideals and the will of the people who elected him.

In the end, history will vindicate Jair Bolsonaro as a defender of liberty, not its enemy. The Brazilian people deserve better than this divisive charade— they deserve leaders who put the nation first, just as he did.
