The STF’s Vendetta Against the Bolsonaros: Justice Weaponized as Political Persecution

    By Hotspotnews

In a ruling that reeks of partisan retribution rather than impartial justice, Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) has once again demonstrated why so many conservatives view it not as a guardian of the Constitution, but as an activist arm of the left-wing establishment. On June 16, 2026, the STF’s First Panel unanimously sentenced former Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro to four years and two months in prison—semi-open regime—for the nebulous crime of “coercion of the judicial process.” His offense? Advocating for U.S. sanctions and tariffs against Brazil in response to what his family and millions of Brazilians see as a systematic judicial assault on their political movement.26

This is not justice. This is the cruel truth of Brazil’s judicial oligarchy in action: a court that has spent years hounding Jair Bolsonaro and his family for daring to challenge the status quo, now extending its reach to punish a son for the unforgivable sin of seeking international scrutiny on their plight.

A Son’s Desperate Defense Framed as Crime

Eduardo Bolsonaro moved to the United States and engaged American officials, including during the Trump administration, to highlight the STF’s heavy-handed tactics—particularly those of Justice Alexandre de Moraes. He pushed for economic pressure, including tariffs, to counter what he viewed as politicized prosecutions against his father. The STF, led by Moraes, twisted this into “coercion,” claiming it interfered with ongoing cases tied to the alleged 2022-2023 “coup plot” for which Jair Bolsonaro himself received a staggering 27-year sentence.

Conservatives understand the context the mainstream ignores. Jair Bolsonaro governed as a bulwark against socialism, corruption, and cultural decay. His 2022 defeat—marred by questions over electoral integrity and institutional bias—sparked protests rooted in legitimate grievances. Rather than address root causes like economic pain or distrust in elites, the STF opted for lawfare: expansive investigations, censorship, asset freezes, and now family-wide targeting. Eduardo’s actions were those of a loyal son and patriot trying to expose perceived tyranny to the world’s leading democracy. In a free society, petitioning foreign governments for accountability is advocacy, not sedition.

Yet the STF, with its 4-0 vote featuring Moraes, Zanin (a Lula ally), Cármen Lúcia, and Dino, treats any resistance as existential threat. This isn’t rule of law; it’s revenge against a political family that mobilized millions against the PT machine and its judicial enablers.

    Partisan Vengeance, Not Impartial Law

The timing and targeting expose the vendetta. Jair Bolsonaro faces imprisonment for a “coup” that never materialized—no tanks rolled, no institutions fell. Protesters on January 8, 2023, were largely peaceful patriots, many later subjected to harsh treatment. Now the family pays the price: Eduardo loses political rights until 2038, faces fines, and sees his efforts to support his brother’s potential 2026 run criminalized. This follows a pattern—passport seizures, mandate losses, endless inquiries—all under the banner of “defending democracy” while silencing dissent.

Contrast this with leniency for left-wing radicals or corruption scandals involving Lula’s circle. The double standard is glaring. When powerful judges like Moraes wield near-monarchical power—censoring social media, ordering arrests, and now punishing lobbying—the “democracy” they claim to protect looks like one-party judicial rule. Eduardo’s “crime” was embarrassing the court by inviting foreign eyes to Brazil’s internal power struggles. In conservative eyes, that’s whistleblowing against overreach, not felony.

The human cost is stark. The Bolsonaro family has endured years of smears, legal warfare, and exile-like pressures. Eduardo, a vocal defender of gun rights, traditional values, and anti-communism, represented the raw energy of Brazil’s right. Neutralizing him politically sends a chilling message: Oppose us, and we will dismantle not just you, but your children.

The Broader Assault on Conservative Brazil

This ruling deepens Brazil’s polarization. Millions voted for Bolsonaro precisely because they rejected the judicial-political complex that now dominates. STF decisions increasingly blur lines between judging and governing—expanding “militant democracy” to justify suppressing conservatives while leftists face lighter scrutiny for actual violence or graft.

The cruel truth: Brazil’s institutions have been captured. What began as probes into January 8 events morphed into a crusade against an entire worldview. Free speech, family loyalty, and seeking alliances abroad are reframed as threats. True rule of law demands neutrality, proportionality, and respect for popular will—not this selective persecution.

Conservatives worldwide should watch closely. If a court can jail a politician’s son for lobbying against perceived injustice, democratic backsliding isn’t a right-wing myth—it’s happening under the guise of defending it. Eduardo Bolsonaro’s conviction isn’t closure; it’s escalation in a cultural and political war. Brazil deserves better: an independent judiciary, not a partisan inquisition. The fight for that vision continues, undeterred by today’s outrage.
