Brazilian Supreme Court ordered the suspension of U.S. video-sharing platform Rumble, citing its failure to comply with court orders same move made against Elon Musk’s X in 2024.
Rumble, a popular video platform with conservatives has refused to block Allan dos Santos @allanldsantos, who is under investigation in Brazil.

On February 21, 2025, Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the suspension of the U.S.-based video-sharing platform Rumble in Brazil due to its repeated refusal to comply with judicial directives. This decision mirrors a similar action taken against Elon Musk’s X platform in August 2024, when it was temporarily banned for failing to meet comparable court requirements. In both cases, Moraes mandated that the platforms appoint a legal representative in Brazil and adhere to local regulations, including content moderation orders.

The core issue with Rumble centers on its refusal to block the account of Allan dos Santos, Journalist and a Brazilian digital influencer, supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro. currently residing in the United States, is considered a fugitive by Brazilian authorities, with an arrest warrant issued against him as part of investigations into alleged misinformation and hate speech. On February 9, 2025, Moraes specifically ordered Rumble to deactivate Dos Santos’ account and suspend its monetization, but the platform declined, arguing that complying would infringe on free speech principles under U.S. Law.

Rumble, popular among conservative users for its stance against censorship, has framed this as a resistance to “unprecedented censorship” by the Brazilian Judge Moraes. The company, alongside Trump Media & Technology Group, filed a lawsuit against Moraes in a Florida federal court on February 19, 2025, accusing him of overreach and violating U.S. free speech protections. Despite these efforts, Moraes’ ruling on February 21 gave Brazil’s telecommunications regulator, Anatel, 24 hours to enforce the nationwide suspension, which remains in effect until Rumble complies with the court’s demands, including paying outstanding fines.

This standoff echoes the earlier clash with X, which was suspended for over a month in 2024 before complying with Moraes’ orders. The broader context involves Moraes’ campaign to curb what he calls “threats to Brazilian democracy”, particularly disinformation linked to Bolsonaro’s tenure, a mission that has drawn criticism for alleged judicial overreach and revolt by many. For now, Rumble’s CEO, Chris Pavlovski, has vowed to fight the order relentlessly, positioning the platform as a defender of free expression against what he calls authoritarian demands.

Rumble, whose previous investors include a venture capital firm co-founded by now-U.S. Vice President JD Vance, said in a statement it was exploring all avenues to challenge the decision.
