Flávio Is Lula’s Nightmare — and Marçal Said the Quiet Part Out Loud

    By Hotspotnews

Pablo Marçal has a habit of saying what polite campaign consultants would rather bury. In an April 2026 interview with Estadão, he put it plainly: Lula’s nightmare is Flávio Bolsonaro, because Flávio is “the improved Bolsonaro” — someone who can hold a conversation, keep his mouth under control when needed, and still carry the fight. That line is now circulating again because it lands. It is not poetry. It is a political diagnosis from the right’s most chaotic megaphone.

Jair Bolsonaro built a movement that broke the PT’s sense of permanence. He also left the country a lesson: raw confrontation wins a base and loses the middle. Flávio is the attempt to keep the base without handing Lula every unforced error. He is a senator, not a meme. He talks like a politician who knows cameras and committees. Conservatives who watched 2022 should recognize the point. Energy without discipline is a gift to the other side.

Marçal’s style is the opposite of Flávio’s. He cuts. That is why people on the right keep quoting him even when they would never hire him as a spokesman. He has spent months hammering Lula and competing names on the right while treating Flávio as the one candidate the left actually fears in a runoff. Whether you like Marçal is beside the point. The pattern is obvious: he attacks everyone except the man he once called “the Bolsonaro we always wanted.”

The numbers explain the anxiety in Brasília. Datafolha in late August put rejection of Flávio and Lula in the same neighborhood — 46 percent and 45 percent. That is not a coronation for anyone. It is a dead heat of dislike. Lula’s camp is already trying to knock Flávio’s ticket out of the race over campaign events. Parties do not file those actions against candidates they consider harmless. They file them against the one who can still take the Palácio.

Call it strategy or call it theater. Marçal registered a presidential bid while remaining ineligible through 2032. Analysts across the spectrum treated that move as a wrecking ball aimed at other right-wing options and at Lula’s message discipline. Flávio’s circle has not treated Marçal as an enemy. That tells you more than a dozen press releases.

None of this makes Flávio inevitable. Family drama, old scandals, and the weight of the Bolsonaro name will follow him to October. Conservatives who pretend otherwise are lying to themselves. The honest case is narrower and stronger: the PT would rather face a fragmented right than a single heir who can speak to churches, interior Brazil, and voters tired of both chaos and the same old machine.

Marçal said Flávio is the improved version. That is an argument, not a prophecy. The argument is that the right finally has a candidate who can fight without handing Lula the clip of the day. If that is what keeps the current president up at night, the rest of the country should pay attention.
