Brazil: A Weaponized Accusation Meets the DNA Test,

The accusations return showing how his candidacy to VP hit PT hard.

In Brazilian politics, few things are more toxic than an unverified allegation of the gravest kind timed for maximum damage. That is precisely what has unfolded around Deputy Alfredo Gaspar.

In late March 2026, during the final sessions of the CPMI that investigated massive frauds against INSS retirees, Deputies Lindbergh Farias and Senator Soraya Thronicke publicly labeled Gaspar a “rapist of a vulnerable minor.” The claim was dramatic, the details sparse, and the political context unmistakable: Gaspar, as rapporteur, had just presented a hard-hitting report that sought the indictment of more than two hundred people, including figures linked to the current government.

Gaspar denied the accusation outright. He stated that the story confused him with a relative and immediately took concrete steps: he filed criminal complaints for calumny and false accusation at the Supreme Court and the Attorney General’s Office, contacted the Federal Police, and offered his genetic material for testing. Those actions were not the behavior of a man running from the truth.

Nearly five months later, the same allegation has been dragged back into the spotlight the moment Gaspar was named Flávio Bolsonaro’s running mate. The timing is not subtle. Suddenly the old claim is recirculating, and the political temperature is rising just as the presidential campaign begins in earnest.

What has Gaspar done in response? He has doubled down on the only thing that can settle a paternity-related allegation once and for all: science. On August 6 his lawyers formally asked both the Attorney General’s Office and the Supreme Court for an urgent DNA comparison, offering material already collected under judicial order and requesting a 72-hour timeline. He has publicly rejected any quiet political deal or retraction arrangement. “I am begging for the DNA test,” he said. That is the language of a man who believes the evidence will clear him.

Conservative principles demand two things here. First, serious accusations of violence against the vulnerable must be investigated thoroughly and without favoritism. Second, they must not be allowed to become political weapons that can be fired, shelved, and fired again whenever convenient. Due process is not optional. Scientific evidence is not optional. Character assassination timed to an election is not justice.

Gaspar’s record as a former prosecutor, former state security secretary, and the rapporteur who confronted powerful interests in the INSS scandal gives context to why certain quarters would prefer him sidelined. The proper response is not to amplify an unresolved claim into a campaign talking point. It is to let the DNA speak and to insist that those who leveled the accusation produce the concrete evidence they claim to possess.

In a healthy republic, the gravest charges require the highest standard of proof. Anything less turns the justice system into a partisan tool. Alfredo Gaspar has placed his genetic material on the table and asked the institutions to do their job. That request should be answered promptly, cleanly, and without further political theater.
