Rounds of fronts bring cold start to 2025 to Central Florida. Here’s what to know

Cold start to new year

ORLANDO, Fla. – Foggy conditions will improve as we go through our last day of 2024. Cloud cover will remain thick throughout the day.

Along with the clouds, added moisture, combined with an approaching cold front, will increase rain chances to 10-20% Tuesday, mainly north of the Orlando area and Cape Canaveral. Further south, rain chances are minimal, staying below 10%. Since Central Florida is expected to remain ahead of the front through the day, afternoon temperatures will stay above normal, reaching the upper 70s to low 80s.

Ringing in 2025

As the night progresses, the cold front will move through the region, shifting winds out of the northwest. As the clock strikes midnight, temperatures will remain mild in the mid 60s followed by cooler changes.

Cold start to the new year

Looking ahead to New Year’s Day on Monday, a high-pressure system will settle over the southeastern U.S. and gradually take control of Florida. This will bring cooler, drier air, causing temperatures to drop into the mid to upper 60s for highs and the upper 30s to upper 40s for lows.

Another cold front on Friday will bring another round of cold air by the weekend. Highs should remain in the mid 50s to mid 60s and lows dipping into the low 30s to mid 40s with temperatures gradually warming into Tuesday.

Long range outlook

Although there is plenty of time to iron out details, some long range models are hinting at some very cold air moving across the Deep South by Jan. 10. Some runs show temperatures running 20-25 degrees colder than average. We will continue to keep you updated as we move into 2025.
