The Desperate Assault on Flávio Bolsonaro: How the PT and Brazil’s Weaponized “Justice” System Aim to Eliminate a Rising Conservative Threat

In the cutthroat arena of Brazilian politics, where the left has long mastered the art of lawfare—using courts, prosecutors, and compliant judges as blunt instruments against their opponents—few moves have been as brazen or repulsive as the latest campaign against Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. As the 2026 presidential race intensifies, with Flávio emerging as a formidable challenger to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the PT machine has unleashed one of its most reliable attack dogs: Deputy Lindbergh Farias. This is not justice. This is a naked, obnoxious attempt to take a leading conservative candidate out of the race before voters can even have their say. They have no limits.

On May 18, 2026, Lindbergh Farias formally petitioned Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes to expand an ongoing inquiry—originally targeting Eduardo Bolsonaro’s activities abroad—to drag in Flávio and even former President Jair Bolsonaro. The demands are sweeping and punitive: seize Flávio’s passport, ban him from leaving the country, freeze his assets, break bank, tax, and telecom secrecy, and more. All of this hinges on leaked audios and reports from The Intercept involving negotiations with banker Daniel Vorcaro of Banco Master for financing the film Dark Horse, a biographical project centered on Jair Bolsonaro’s life and legacy.29

Flávio has denied any illicit activity, framing the talks as legitimate private sponsorship efforts for a cultural project. Yet the PT’s response has been immediate and ferocious: preventive arrest demands, asset blocks, and character assassination. The timing could not be more suspicious. Flávio, backed by his father, has surged in polls, tying or even edging out Lula in key second-round scenarios. He represents the consolidation of the right-wing vote, a continuation of the Bolsonaro movement that delivered real results on security, economy, and sovereignty before the institutional deep state pushed back. With Jair’s endorsement and the family name still carrying massive appeal among millions of Brazilians tired of Lula’s scandals, economic woes, and institutional capture, Flávio poses a genuine threat. So, naturally, the regime moves to kneecap him.40

Lindbergh Farias: The Hypocrite Leading the Charge

What makes this especially revolting is the messenger. Lindbergh Farias is no crusader for clean government. He’s a veteran PT operator with a rap sheet that would disqualify him in any functioning democracy. Condemned for administrative improbity during his time as mayor of Nova Iguaçu, where public funds meant for adapting schools for disabled children vanished without accountability. Ties to the Mensalão scandal, the massive vote-buying scheme that defined the PT’s early corruption era. Involvement in Lava Jato probes. Yet here he is, posturing as the defender of “institutions” while demanding the full arsenal of state power against a political rival.

This is the same Lindbergh who, in recent congressional hearings, hurled grotesque, unsubstantiated accusations of rape and cover-ups against opponents to derail investigations touching Lula’s circle. He’s pushed for a CPI on Banco Master while conveniently ignoring the broader web of financial dealings that have plagued Brazilian politics for decades—including those linked to PT allies. His selective outrage reeks of partisan warfare, not principle. Flávio’s team rightly calls this what it is: persecution timed to derail a competitive candidacy.

The Pattern of Lawfare: No Limits in Defense of Power

Brazil has seen this playbook before. The Bolsonaro family has endured endless investigations, often amplified by friendly media and timed for maximum electoral damage. From passport seizures and travel bans to asset freezes and endless leaks, the goal is never just “accountability”—it’s to bleed opponents dry, tarnish their image, restrict their movement and fundraising, and sow doubt among voters. Precedents abound: Lula himself benefited from reversals and selective mercy when it suited the system. Yet for conservatives, the process becomes the punishment.

The Dark Horse financing angle is being spun as some grand conspiracy, but context matters. Private financing for films is common worldwide. Audios show tough negotiations over payments—standard in production deals—not proven money laundering or campaign violations. Vorcaro and Banco Master have their own issues, but linking them directly to election interference or “attacks on institutions” requires leaps that a fair court would scrutinize. Instead, Alexandre de Moraes—long accused of overreach and bias—holds the gavel. The PT knows this terrain favors them.

Meanwhile, Flávio’s rise reflects deep discontent with Lula’s Brazil: persistent corruption revelations, economic struggles, crime concerns, and a sense that the “institutions” protect only one side. Polls show him neck-and-neck or leading in runoff scenarios, energizing the base that delivered Bolsonaro’s 2018 victory. The left cannot win on ideas alone, so they default to elimination tactics.38

This Is About 2026—and the Soul of Brazil

Make no mistake: this is election interference dressed as law enforcement. With October 2026 approaching, the PT and its allies in the judiciary are signaling desperation. They fear a Bolsonaro resurgence because it threatens their grip on power, their narrative of victimhood, and the unaccountable bureaucracy they’ve built. Flávio represents continuity—strong borders, pro-family values, economic freedom, and resistance to globalist overreach. Silencing him through paperwork and precautionary measures is easier than debating policy.

Conservatives and patriots across Brazil must see this for the authoritarian overreach it is. The right has every right to field its strongest candidate without the state rigging the field. Calls for a fair CPI on Banco Master to clear the air are welcome, but weaponized petitions to Moraes are not. Voters are watching. Backlash against this kind of naked power play has fueled conservative waves before, and it could again.

Lindbergh Farias and his PT comrades have shown their true colors: no limits, no shame, no respect for democratic choice. They will stop at nothing to protect their regime. The question for Brazil is whether the people will allow it—or deliver a decisive rebuke at the ballot box. The Bolsonaro movement endures not because of one man, but because millions reject this corrupt status quo. Flávio’s fight is theirs.
