The Uniparty Protection Racket: Why Congress Just Proved It Can’t Police Itself

    By Hotspotnews-November 19, 2025-Orlando FL-USA

Yesterday the American people witnessed something that should infuriate every conservative, every independent, and yes, every honest liberal still left in Washington: the House of Representatives openly colluded, across party lines, to bury scandals involving both a Democrat and a Republican rather than let the truth see daylight.

Republican Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) and Democrat Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) both stood accused of serious misconduct worthy of censure. Mills faces a 2023 restraining order for alleged threats and harassment (claims he denies) plus questions about his military record. Plaskett exchanged text messages with Jeffrey Epstein—yes, that Jeffrey Epstein—while he was a registered sex offender, offering her “advice” on questioning Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen.

Either set of allegations, on its own, should have triggered a full, public debate and an up-or-down vote. Instead, leadership on both sides cut a backroom deal: Republicans would let the Plaskett censure die quietly (it failed 209–214), and Democrats would quietly shelve the Mills censure so it never even reached the floor. No transparency. No accountability. Just a mutual non-aggression pact to protect their own.

This is not “bipartisanship.” This is a Uniparty protection racket.

Conservatives have spent years rightly demanding that Democrats be held accountable for their scandals—whether it’s Eric Swalwell sleeping with a Chinese spy, Ilhan Omar’s questionable campaign spending, or now Stacey Plaskett texting with Epstein. But the moment a Republican faces credible allegations, too many in our own ranks suddenly discover the virtues of “due process” and “not airing dirty laundry.”

That is moral cowardice dressed up as pragmatism.

If we believe in the rule of law, it must apply equally. If we believe Congress has become a privileged class that shields its members from the standards it imposes on the rest of us, then we must demand the same medicine for both sides of the aisle.

The conservative position is not “only punish Democrats.” The conservative position is “punish wrongdoing, period.” Anything less makes us hypocrites and fuels the very cynicism that drives voters away from the GOP.

Yesterday’s spectacle proved three uncomfortable truths:

    1. The current House leadership—Republican majority Republican—cannot be trusted to police itself.
    2. Speaker Mike Johnson, for all his good intentions, either participated in or capitulated to a deal that put party loyalty above principle.
    3. The only way to drain the swamp is to force every ethics allegation into the sunlight, regardless of the letter behind the name.

Real reform would look like this:
    – Automatic floor votes on any censure resolution within 10 legislative days—no more hiding behind “privileged” status games.
    – Public release of all Ethics Committee findings, even when the committee deadlocks or chooses not to act.
    – Zero tolerance for members who associate with convicted sex traffickers or who allegedly threaten women and then hide behind parliamentary tricks.

Until those changes happen, every time a Republican thunders about “Democrat corruption,” the public will rightly respond: “Then why did you protect Cory Mills the moment it got uncomfortable?”

We do not need a bigger majority to fix this. We need a braver one.

The Freedom Caucus members who fought yesterday—Anna Paulina Luna, Lauren Boebert, Nancy Mace, Chip Roy—stood on principle and exposed the rot. They deserve our thanks, not our silence.

The rest of the conference needs to decide whose side they’re on: the country’s, or the club’s.

Because as long as Congress keeps running a mutual protection racket, the American people will keep losing faith in all of us.

    And they’ll be right to.
