Loyalty Over Elitism: Why Eduardo Bolsonaro’s Backing of Julia Zanatta Points the Way for Brazilian Conservatism

    By Hotspotnews

In the intense maneuvering ahead of the 2026 presidential contest, Eduardo Bolsonaro has drawn a clear line. By publicly elevating Federal Deputy Julia Zanatta of Santa Catarina as a strong choice for vice president alongside his brother, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, he has reaffirmed a core principle of authentic Brazilian conservatism: loyalty to the movement, its founding values, and the family that rebuilt hope for millions of patriots matters far more than polished résumés or elite connections.

Zanatta is no newcomer seeking the spotlight. Elected in 2022 with more than 111,000 votes, the journalist, lawyer, Catholic mother, and PL deputy has consistently defended the causes that define the right: protection of life, traditional family, economic freedom free from stifling bureaucracy, the right of law-abiding citizens to self-defense, and firm resistance to ideological capture of schools and institutions. When Bolsonarist lawmakers occupied the Chamber in protest over the former president’s house arrest, she was present—baby in arms—refusing to abandon the fight. That kind of steadfastness cannot be manufactured in boardrooms or media studios.

Eduardo’s words captured it precisely: if the wicked complain, this is the right path. Zanatta is up to the task because of her loyalty, the causes she defends so ably in Congress, and the predictable howling from the left. Her own response was characteristically direct—the idea was taking shape, and she remains always ready for combat. Recent voices from the grassroots have echoed the same preference, rejecting alternatives seen as diluted by feminist leanings, financial-elite ties, or a fondness for stages and microphones over hard principle. Loyalty, these supporters correctly note, delivers more lasting votes and genuine support than opportunistic arrangements.

This stands in sharp contrast to names floated from technocratic circles or past economic teams. Spreadsheet competence has its uses, yet Brazilian conservatism has learned repeatedly that skill without conviction produces figures who soften principles the moment media pressure mounts or market whispers grow loud. Zanatta represents the opposite: a combat-ready conservative rooted in the movement’s base rather than the corridors of influence that so often dilute it.

Choosing a running mate is not mere optics. Flávio has signaled openness to a woman on the ticket, recognizing the need to broaden appeal. Yet broadening must never mean watering down. A vice presidential partner who shares the unyielding defense of God, family, and nation strengthens the ticket where it counts most—with the patriots who turned out in force, who endured institutional persecution, and who still believe Brazil can be rescued from the left’s project of cultural and institutional capture.

Critics will call this choice too “radical” or insufficiently expansive. That is precisely the point. The left’s complaints are a reliable compass. True conservatism does not chase applause from those who have spent years trying to criminalize patriotism and dismantle the family. It rewards those who stayed loyal when it was costly.

Eduardo Bolsonaro’s endorsement of Julia Zanatta is therefore more than a family preference. It is a statement that the movement’s future lies with fighters who put principle and fidelity first. In a political landscape filled with shifting alliances and fair-weather allies, that clarity is not only refreshing—it is essential if Brazil is to reclaim its sovereignty, its values, and its future.
