Nathan Kurelo Wilk ’22, a graduate student in fintech, is ready to embark on a career as a software engineer at Microsoft specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation. Wilk is excited about the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, contribute to advancements in the tech industry, and create innovative solutions that can benefit society.
Wilk’s experiences that have paved the way for his post-graduation job include co-founding Expand Financial LLC, a fintech business focused on financial literacy and integrating AI technology. He has also spoken at a Board of Governors meeting on behalf of UCF students, traveled to New York with College of Business Dean Paul Jarley to meet with corporate partners, and successfully navigated the challenges of moving from Brazil to the U.S. in 2017.
Wilk has taken advantage of the opportunities available at UCF, especially in the fintech program offered by the colleges of Business and Engineering and Computer Science. This program, launched in Fall 2022, teaches students how to leverage data, technology, and financial services to enhance customer experience and reduce costs.
Throughout his academic journey, Wilk has been supported by UCF faculty who have encouraged him to explore opportunities beyond the classroom. His fellowship with Meta and interactions with companies like Google and Microsoft have provided him with valuable insights into the world of AI innovation and prepared him for internships.
Wilk’s active participation in hackathons has not only expanded his technical skills but also connected him with potential employers, leading to job offers, awards, and grants. These events have been a highlight of his educational experience, allowing him to showcase his talents and network with industry professionals.
