Paris, June 3, 2025 – Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira is participating today in the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) held at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) headquarters in Paris. The meeting, which runs from June 3 to 4, was officially opened by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann.
The 2025 MCM, chaired by Costa Rica with Australia, Canada, and Lithuania as Vice-Chairs, focuses on the theme “Leading the Way Towards Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Prosperity Through Rules-Based Trade, Investment, and Innovation.” The agenda emphasizes the role of international cooperation in addressing global economic challenges, leveraging trade, investment, and innovation to foster sustainable growth and human-centered policies.
Minister Vieira’s attendance follows his participation on June 2 in the 44th Cairns Group Ministerial Meeting, a preparatory event for an informal World Trade Organization (WTO) ministers’ meeting also scheduled in Paris. Brazil’s engagement in these discussions underscores its commitment to advancing multilateral trade and economic cooperation, as well as its ongoing efforts toward OECD membership, a priority reinforced by recent dialogues between Brazilian officials and Secretary-General Cormann.
The OECD, an international organization with 38 member countries, serves as a platform for governments to exchange policy experiences and coordinate strategies to promote economic resilience and inclusive prosperity. The 2025 MCM brings together ministers and high-level representatives from member and partner countries to address pressing global issues, including digital transformation and sustainable development.
