Lula government imposes secrecy on documents about Batista brothers in Venezuela
J&F has been meeting with Maduro authorities
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lula government (PT) decreed a five-year secrecy for documents about the brothers Joesley and Wesley Batista and the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro.
In December 2024, the newspaper O Globo asked for access to telegrams, telegraphic and circular dispatches from Itamaraty with the Brazilian Embassy in Caracas, capital of Venezuela.
The files are about the Batista brothers, the J&F group, JBS and Âmbar Energia. Among the topics covered is the report of a visit to the then Minister of Oil and president of PDVSA, Pedro Tellechea, which would have happened on February 27 last year. The Information Classification Term does not clarify who participated in the hearing or the subjects dealt with.
J&F has interests in Venezuela and has been meeting with Maduro’s authorities. In 2023, the Batista brothers’ group bought the Fluxus oil tanker. After that, Joesley and Wesley began looking for oil fields in Venezuela and Peru.
The secrecy of diplomatic communications about the Batista brothers and Venezuela was determined by Brazil’s ambassador in Caracas, Glivânia Maria de Oliveira. The information is from Oeste and the newspaper O Globo.
