Dark Horse: Private Sponsorship, Public Persecution

    By Hotspotnews

Flávio Bolsonaro has been clear from the beginning. The film Dark Horse is a private project about his father. The money he helped raise from Daniel Vorcaro was a private sponsorship. He never received those funds personally. He never signed a contract with the banker. He never promised any political favor in return.

That is the version Flávio has repeated since May. On 11 September, campaigning in Manaus, he said it again: the relationship was private, the sponsorship was private, and there is nothing irregular about a son helping finance a film that tells his father’s story. He added that he considers it positive to lift the secrecy on the inquiry. “I want transparency in everything,” he declared. “It will only confirm what I have always said.”

He went further. He publicly asked Justice André Mendonça to open the remaining sealed material. “Show everything to the people,” Flávio said. “They deserve to know who is right — my case — and who is wrong — the government’s case.” He praised Mendonça for acting as a judge rather than taking sides.

Flávio’s campaign points out that the story has been public for four months. The audio messages were published in May. The producer later submitted an expert report stating the film cost about R$75 million and was funded privately through a U.S. fund, with no public money in that analysis. Flávio has said the matter is a closed chapter and that further technical questions belong to the producer, not to him.

He draws a sharp contrast with the current government. While he sought private support for a family film, he argues that others in power had their own dealings with the same banker. He has called recent police actions against people linked to the production an attempt at political interference timed for the election.

Flávio insists the investigation will not change his campaign. When asked about its effect on his candidacy he answered: “Zero.” He continues traveling, speaking, and treating the episode as already known to voters.

His position remains unchanged: a son helped raise private money for a film about his father. He did not pocket the money. He did not use public funds for that purpose. He wants every document released so Brazilians can see the difference between a private sponsorship and the relationships he accuses the government of having.
