Lula loses support in the Northeast, the only region where Bolsonaro won in 2022, and records the worst result since the first term
The Lula government approval recorded a significant drop, according to the results of the first Genial/Quaest survey of 2025. The survey points out that the president’s positive evaluation went from 52% to 47% in a month.
The greatest impact was observed in the Northeast, where Lula had his main support base in the 2022 elections. The survey, conducted between January 23 and 26 with 4,500 voters, shows that approval in the stronghold fell from 67% to 60%, while disapproval increased from 32% to 37%.
The deep decline confirms the surge in the rejection of the northeastern population, which was always decisive for Lula’s victory in the last elections, when the president obtained 69.34% of the valid votes in the region.
The factors that most influenced this change in perception include the rise in food prices and the controversy of Pix monitoring, which were seen as negative news for the government.
