Lula’s Web of Corruption: INSS Scandal Exposes Deep Ties to the Administration

    By Hotspotnews

In the heart of Brazil’s ongoing political turmoil, the INSS fraud scandal has erupted into a full-blown crisis, revealing what conservatives have long suspected: the Lula administration’s entanglement in a web of cronyism, financial impropriety, and outright theft from the nation’s most vulnerable citizens. As of today, January 12, 2026, fresh revelations have surfaced, directly linking key Lula appointees and allies to the multi-billion-dollar scheme that has siphoned funds from millions of retirees and pensioners. This isn’t just another bureaucratic mishap—it’s a stark reminder of how leftist governance prioritizes elite networks over the hardworking Brazilian people.

The scandal centers on unauthorized loans and discounts deducted from INSS benefits, affecting an estimated 9 million elderly Brazilians and amounting to as much as R$90 billion in stolen funds. At the epicenter is Antônio Carlos Camilo Antunes, dubbed “Careca do INSS,” whose operations have funneled massive sums through shadowy companies. But the real bombshell? A company tied to Careca, ACX ITC Serviços de Tecnologia S/A, transferred R$700,000 to the law office of Verônica Abdala Sterman—none other than a minister on the Superior Tribunal Militar (STM), appointed by President Lula himself in September 2025.

Sterman, a 41-year-old São Paulo lawyer, claims the payment was for “three legal opinions” unrelated to the scandal. Yet, the timing and connections raise red flags that no amount of spin can obscure. This transfer, detailed in a Council for the Control of Financial Activities (COAF) report submitted to the Congressional Joint Inquiry Commission (CPMI) on INSS, occurred between October 2024 and February 2025—conveniently before her STM appointment. Sterman’s past clients? None other than Gleisi Hoffmann, Lula’s Minister of Institutional Relations and a key PT figure, her husband Paulo Bernardo (a former PT minister), and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. All three vocally supported Sterman’s nomination, fueling accusations of quid pro quo and political favoritism.

Conservatives see this as classic Lula-era playbook: reward loyalists with plum positions while the public foots the bill. Hoffmann, once implicated in Odebrecht’s bribery spreadsheets under the alias “Amante,” and Alckmin, a former PSDB rival turned Lula ally, exemplify the administration’s willingness to blur lines between justice, politics, and personal gain. As one deputy thundered in recent statements, “The Lula government is directly involved in robbing INSS retirees!” This isn’t hyperbole—it’s the harsh reality of a system where leftist elites protect their own.

But the connections don’t stop at Sterman. The CPMI has uncovered potential links between the scandal and Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, Lula’s son known as “Lulinha.” Investigators point to Lulinha’s business prospecting in Portugal alongside entrepreneurs involved in the acquisition of Banco Master—a major player in the consignado loan market at the scandal’s core. The bank, owned by Daniel Vorcaro, saw its sigils broken by the CPMI, only for Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Dias Toffoli to block access to documents. Why the interference? Speculation abounds that it shields figures close to the Planalto Palace, potentially leading to new summonses.

Adding fuel to the fire, recent reports highlight suspicious R$266 million movements through ACX ITC in just four months, with “laranja” (front) owners bizarrely receiving social benefits themselves. This ties back to broader embezzlement networks, including Arpar, another phantom firm that funneled R$4.4 million to ACX. Meanwhile, Lula’s base in Congress has actively blocked a full CPI investigation, with the president hypocritically claiming he’d probe even his own family. Actions speak louder: this stonewalling reeks of a cover-up to protect the PT machine.

The judiciary’s role only deepens the outrage. STF Minister André Mendonça has forgone his judicial recess, fearing that plantão judges might reverse INSS-related arrests he authorized. These detentions target fraudsters who preyed on the elderly and vulnerable—yet the volume of money and dirt involved suggests powerful forces are pulling strings to free the culprits. In a nation where conservatives champion law and order, this selective justice is intolerable.

As Brazil grapples with this betrayal, the INSS scandal underscores a fundamental conservative truth: Big Government breeds corruption. Lula’s fourth term (counting his influences) has prioritized ideological allies over fiscal responsibility, leaving retirees destitute while insiders cash in. The CPMI must press on, undeterred by STF roadblocks or Planalto pressure. Brazilians deserve accountability—not more excuses from a regime that promised change but delivered the same old socialist sleight of hand.

It’s time for conservatives to rally: Demand investigations, expose the rot, and reclaim Brazil from the grips of leftist entitlement. The elderly who’ve built this nation shouldn’t fund the luxuries of the elite. Enough is enough.
