Michelle Bolsonaro Hits the Bullseye: The End of Any Illusion with Ciro Gomes

    By Hotspotnews

In a decisive and unambiguous move, Michelle Bolsonaro has put an end to the fantasy that Ciro Gomes could ever be an ally of Brazil’s conservative movement in Ceará. As national president of PL Mulher, the former First Lady issued an immediate and total rupture of any remaining understanding between the state’s PL chapter and Ciro’s PDT for the 2026 gubernatorial race. Her directive was crystal clear: the party will now fully back Senator Eduardo Girão, a genuinely conservative, Christian figure who stands firmly for the values the Brazilian right has defended in the streets and at the ballot box in recent years.

The decision could not be more symbolic—or more necessary. For the past six years, Ciro Gomes has done the exact opposite of what anyone hoping to sit at the conservative table should do. He has called Jair Bolsonaro a “fascist,” a “genocida,” a “thief,” and a “threat to democracy” in nearly every interview he has given. While Bolsonaro lay in a hospital bed fighting for his life after the 2018 knife attack, Ciro chose to attack the candidate. During the pandemic, Ciro repeated day after day that the former president was solely responsible for every death. For those who followed closely, there was no surprise: the PDT leader has always been a man of the left wearing a developmentalist mask, never hiding his admiration for Lula or sparing the Bolsonaro family from his venom.

Maintaining any dialogue with him would have been a betrayal of the millions who cast 58 million votes in 2018 and millions more in 2022 precisely against that kind of hateful, divisive rhetoric. Michelle understood this with a clarity that some regional party bosses lacked. With one short, direct statement, she buried the illusion of a “broad right-wing front” that included someone who spent years spitting in the very plate he later wanted to eat from.

The practical consequences are immediate and far-reaching. In Ceará, the PL is no longer hostage to a toxic alliance and now has its own candidate with a clear identity. Eduardo Girão—who has already shown courage by taking on Brasília’s establishment and defending life, family, and freedom—gains real momentum to rise in the polls and offer a sharp, unmistakable contrast with the left. Conservative voters in Ceará, long orphaned from strong representation, now know exactly where their camp stands.

Michelle’s decision also sends a nationwide message: the era of ideological “horse-trading” is over. Anyone who wants to stand with the Brazilian right will have to respect the man who led that right for the past several years—full stop. There will be no more room for opportunists who spend the entire year insulting Bolsonaro only to come begging for bolsonarista votes on election eve.

Once again, Michelle Bolsonaro has proven she is far more than a decorative figure or “just the wife.” She acts with firmness, decisiveness, and political timing that many seasoned male politicians would envy. By definitively closing the door on any alliance with Ciro Gomes, she has done an enormous service to the coherence of the conservative movement and, above all, to the millions of Brazilians who refuse to be played for fools by politicians who switch sides with the wind.

The message is clear. If you are not with Bolsonaro and the values he represents, you are simply not with the right. Period. Thanks to Michelle’s courage, that is now the law inside Brazil’s largest conservative party.
