Outrage Over Brazil’s Amazon Land Auction: Yet Another Scandal

    By Hotspotorlando Bews
    *Published: June 11, 2025, 08:32 AM EDT*

The recent auction of 453,401 hectares of Brazil’s Jatuarana National Forest—conducted just three weeks ago on May 21, 2025—marks yet another scandalous betrayal under the reckless leadership of President Lula and his Environment Minister Marina Silva. This shameless sell-off of our Amazonian heritage to private profiteers is nothing short of a rape of the Amazon, a national disgrace that compounds the litany of corruption and mismanagement plaguing this administration. As conservatives who champion limited government, economic freedom, and the protection of our natural legacy, we must rise in outrage and demand that Congress step up to remedy this latest outrage before our forest is lost forever.

A Slap in the Face to Conservative Principles
Conservatism reveres tradition, private property, and prudent resource stewardship—ideals echoed by Russell Kirk and the 2016 Republican platform’s call for efficient land use ([Modern Hiker](https://modernhiker.com/hikingblog/conservative-policies-on-public-lands/)). Yet, this auction twists those values into a grotesque mockery. The Lula administration, with its socialist agenda, has handed over nearly half a million hectares to private companies via a secretive São Paulo Stock Exchange deal, pocketing a pitiful BRL 13.3 million in grants and promising a measly BRL 32.6 million annually ([Agência Brasil](https://agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br/en/meio-ambiente/noticia/2025-05/brazil-auctions-concession-453000-ha-national-forest)). This isn’t free-market ingenuity—it’s cronyism at its most scandalous, enriching insiders while robbing the Brazilian taxpayer blind!

Where is the transparency? Where is the public consultation? As X user @Cinamonn81 thundered, “ONDE ACONTECEU ESSE LEILÃO? PORQUE NÃO FOI DIVULGADO UM ABSURDO DESSE?!” ([post ID: 1932635100921074008](https://x.com/Cinamonn81/status/1932635100921074008)). This reeks of backroom deals, and the silence from our 513 deputies and 81 senators is a scandal in itself. Are foreign powers, perhaps China as @mauricioagnolet fears ([post ID: 1932616897939624445](https://x.com/mauricioagnolet/status/1932616897939624445)), pulling the strings? The lack of answers fuels our fury.

    Economic Folly Masquerading as Progress
Proponents tout 2,800 jobs and economic growth. Nonsense! This is a pittance compared to the economic ruin awaiting us. The Amazon is a global carbon sink, and a 2023 [Nature](https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-03921-7) study warns that disturbing 20-25% could release 90 billion tons of CO2, devastating our climate and economy. Marina Silva, once a hero who cut deforestation by 59% from 2004 to 2007 ([Centre for Public Impact](https://centreforpublicimpact.org/public-impact-fundamentals/reducing-deforestation-in-brazil/)), has now sold out for a 37-year lease. This scandalous U-turn betrays every conservative who trusted her environmental stewardship.

    Environmental Catastrophe in the Making
The claim of sustainable management is a laughable lie. Profit-driven companies will plunder, not protect—history proves it with past logging scandals ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSL2E7LC1F7/)). This isn’t conservation; it’s a greenwashed rape of our Amazon. X user @FatimaPatty1958 hit the nail on the head: Silva is a “vagabunda” turning our forest into a “desert” ([post ID: 1932626622990991538](https://x.com/FatimaPatty1958/status/1932626622990991538)). Where are the environmentalists who raged against Bolsonaro? Their silence in this scandal exposes their hypocrisy—it’s only a crisis when a conservative is to blame!

How Congress Can Remedy This Scandalous Rape of the Amazon
This latest scandal demands that Congress act decisively to undo this rape of the Amazon. They still have the power to remedy this outrage, and they must act now:

    – Launch a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI): With 171 deputy or 27 senator signatures, Congress can probe the auction’s legality and corruption, potentially recommending cancellation, as urged by @CidinhaSilvah ([post ID: 1932609501477155116](https://x.com/CidinhaSilvah/status/1932609501477155116)).

    – Pass Legislation to Nullify the Auction: A new law, with majority support in both chambers, could void the concession, citing Article 225 of the 1988 Constitution’s environmental mandate. A Lula veto would need a two-thirds override, but this fight is worth it to stop this scandal.

    – Refer to the Supreme Federal Court: Congress can push the STF to review the auction’s constitutionality, leveraging public fury. A ruling could halt it, as in the 2017 indigenous land case ([Nature](https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-03921-7)).

    – Cut Funding: By slashing budgets for the Brazilian Forest Service or BNDES, Congress can strangle the concession’s execution, forcing the executive to retreat.

The clock ticks—INPE data in the next months could reveal deforestation, strengthening the case. Congress must act with urgency, or they’ll be complicit in this scandalous nightmare.

A Call to Action for Congress
This is yet another scandalous abandonment of our Amazonian birthright. The 513 deputies and 81 senators must rise above cowardice and reclaim our land! As @Brasileira88888 cried, “Parece que o Brasil está ‘abandonado’” ([post ID: 1932615779196842132](https://x.com/Brasileira88888/status/1932615779196842132))—it’s up to them to restore honor. The fight starts today—join the outrage and hold our leaders accountable!

The Jatuarana auction is a scandalous rape of the Amazon, trading our legacy for insider gain. Lula and Silva have betrayed Brazil, and Congress’s inaction is complicity. With inquiry, legislation, judicial referral, and budgetary leverage, they can still remedy this outrage. We demand accountability, transparency, and the restoration of our forest—now!
