Trump Fires Back at Media for Amplifying Assassin’s Smears in Explosive ‘60 Minutes’ Interview

    By Hotspotnews

In a display of raw strength and moral clarity, President Donald Trump confronted CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell head-on during a “60 Minutes” interview on Sunday, just one day after surviving a shocking assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Rather than cowering or playing defense, Trump exposed the mainstream media’s complicity in spreading hatred and defamation, turning what was meant to be a gotcha moment into a powerful defense of truth and accountability.

The chaos erupted Saturday night at the Washington Hilton when a gunman, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, breached security with firearms and knives. Secret Service agents responded decisively, exchanging gunfire and quickly evacuating President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other attendees. Miraculously, no innocents were seriously injured, and the attacker was taken into custody. What should have been a story of heroism and resilience quickly became something far darker when legacy media outlets chose to platform the assailant’s twisted manifesto instead of condemning the violence.

During the interview, O’Donnell read excerpts from Allen’s rant, in which the shooter branded Trump a “pedophile, rapist, and traitor.” This wasn’t journalism—it was the amplification of a deranged killer’s bile on national television, mere hours after the attempt on the President’s life. Trump, unflinching, called out the tactic immediately. “I was waiting for you to read that because I knew you would—because you’re horrible people,” he declared. Labeling the shooter a “sick person,” Trump slammed the media for stooping so low: “You should be ashamed of yourselves for repeating this filth. This isn’t journalism. It’s a disgrace.”

This exchange perfectly illustrates the poisonous environment conservatives have endured for years. The corporate press has relentlessly demonized Trump and his supporters with hoax after hoax—from Russia collusion to inflated threats about “democracy dying.” When that constant barrage of vitriol inspires real-world violence, as it did at the Correspondents’ Dinner, the media’s response isn’t reflection or restraint. It’s to recite the attacker’s script and demand the victim respond to it.

President Trump’s refusal to play along is why millions of Americans continue to stand with him. While elites in Washington and New York wring their hands and lecture about civility, Trump speaks the plain truth: the real threat isn’t questioning power—it’s the media’s role in radicalizing unstable individuals through lies and selective outrage. By elevating the manifesto, outlets like CBS didn’t inform the public; they legitimized hatred.

This incident should alarm every fair-minded American. Political violence has no place in our republic, period. Yet pretending the media bears zero responsibility for the toxic culture of personal destruction is naive at best and dangerous at worst. For too long, conservative voices have been smeared as extremists for simply challenging the status quo. When that rhetoric turns deadly, the same voices that fueled it pivot to victim-blaming or deflection.

President Trump once again proved he is the fighter this country needs. He didn’t dodge the question—he demolished it, defending his honor and, by extension, the honor of the American people tired of being gaslit by a dishonest press. In an era where journalism has devolved into activism, Trump’s unapologetic stand reminds us what real leadership looks like: strength, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to exposing corruption wherever it hides.

As the nation processes this latest attack, one thing is clear—the divide isn’t just political. It’s between those who value truth and those who weaponize lies. On Sunday night, only one side chose truth.
