Dental surgeon Dr. Mauricio Kajihara , a specialist in dental implants and a reference in humanized dentistry, is one of the protagonists of the Biography© Documentary series , produced by the CALONE® Group , a signatory of the UN Global Compact . The project, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda , will be launched in the second half of 2025 on the CaloneXP streaming platform .
Throughout the episode, Dr. Mauricio shares his inspiring journey, which begins with the influence of his aunt, also a dentist, and covers the challenges of starting his career, his consolidation as a specialist in implantology, and the real impact his work has on the self-esteem and quality of life of his patients.
“My journey in dentistry began with the influence of my aunt. She has always been an inspiration to me, both professionally and personally,” he reveals during the recording. From his first encounters with human anatomy during his undergraduate studies, Mauricio realized he was on the right path, driven by the desire to transform lives.
While still in college, treating patients in situations of social vulnerability awakened in him an awareness of the importance of dentistry beyond aesthetics. “There I understood that restoring a smile is much more than an aesthetic issue. It’s about restoring dignity, health, and confidence.”
The beginning of his career was challenging. With only R$ 4,000 and the help of a friend who sold a motorcycle, Mauricio opened his first office, without even chairs in the waiting room. With resilience and hard work, he distributed flyers door-to-door to attract his first patients.
The effort paid off. In just two years, he grew from a small practice to four active clinics. “Every step was a lesson. Growing quickly demanded a lot from me, both as a dentist and as an entrepreneur,” he recalls.
“I’ve received messages from patients who said they ate a hamburger or yakisoba for the first time in years after treatment. That’s priceless,” he reports. Among the most striking cases, he cites patients who recovered from deep depression after undergoing oral rehabilitation.
In addition to his work as a dental surgeon, Dr. Mauricio plans to invest more and more in dental education, sharing his experience to train more prepared and conscientious professionals.
