Florida’s Bold Stand Against Illegal Immigration: A Model for America

    By Hotspotnews

In an era when open borders and endless bureaucratic delays have turned our immigration system into a national security liability, Florida has once again shown the country what real leadership looks like. President Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed a decisive plan to deputize National Guardsmen—specifically qualified Judge Advocate General officers—as immigration judges. The goal was straightforward and long overdue: transform a process that routinely stretches three years or more into one decided in less than three days.

This is not cruelty. This is competence. For too long, the immigration court backlog has served as a de facto amnesty factory. Illegal entrants game the system, abscond after release, and disappear into the interior while honest Americans foot the bill for welfare, schools, hospitals, and rising crime. Speeding up due process to days instead of years closes that loophole. Detainees face a swift, lawful hearing. Those without valid claims are removed. Those with legitimate cases get resolution instead of limbo.

Alligator Alcatraz—the temporary detention facility built with remarkable speed in the Everglades—embodied this no-nonsense approach. Surrounded by natural barriers that make escape impractical, it prioritized the worst offenders first while delivering rapid adjudication. National Guard personnel, already trained in military law and discipline, provided the manpower federal courts simply could not match. The result: thousands of removals that would otherwise have languished for years.

Every red state should take note. The Constitution reserves to the states residual police powers and the ability to cooperate with federal enforcement. When Washington has been captured by open-borders ideology or paralyzed by process, states must act. Texas, Arizona, and others face the same invasion pressures Florida confronted. Deputizing National Guard JAGs, standing up temporary high-security facilities, and demanding federal cooperation is not radical—it is the bare minimum of self-preservation.

Critics will shriek about “militarizing” immigration or denying due process. Ignore them. Due process does not require years of delay, free housing, and endless appeals funded by taxpayers. It requires a fair hearing before a competent adjudicator. Military lawyers meet that standard. The alternative—catch and release, sanctuary policies, and court shopping—has already produced record illegal crossings, fentanyl deaths, and strained communities from Springfield to New York.

Trump’s endorsement of DeSantis’s plan underscored a simple truth: results matter more than feelings. Florida built capacity fast, partnered with federal authorities, and focused on the “worst of the worst.” Other governors should stop posturing and start copying. Secure the border, enforce the law, and end the incentives that draw millions across it. That is the conservative approach—rooted in sovereignty, fairness to citizens, and respect for the rule of law.

America cannot remain a nation if it refuses to control who enters and remains. Florida’s example proves it can be done efficiently, lawfully, and without apology. The rest of the country should follow.
