On March 22, 2025, Israel conducted airstrikes in southern Lebanon in response to rocket fire from across the border. The Israeli military reported that three rockets were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel, targeting the town of Metula, and all were intercepted. In retaliation, Israel struck multiple targets, which it identified as belonging to Hezbollah, including dozens of rocket launchers and a command center. Lebanese health officials reported that the strikes killed two people, including a child, and injured eight others in the village of Touline.
Hezbollah denied responsibility for the rocket attack, stating it had no involvement and remained committed to a ceasefire that had been in place since November 2024, following over a year of conflict with Israel. No group has claimed responsibility for the rocket fire. This incident marks the most significant escalation since the ceasefire began, raising concerns about the fragile truce’s stability.
