Congressman Mario Frias (PL-SP), former Secretary of Culture during the Bolsonaro administration, used social networks to criticize the Brazilian film Ainda Estou Aqui, (I’m still here) which competes for the Oscar in three categories. For Frias, production represents an attempt at ideological manipulation.
“When you turn a piece of communist propaganda and disinformation into art, you are not enriching the national culture, you are destroying it. That there is the antithesis of art, it is a mere technique of psychological manipulation,” said the parliamentarian.
About the movie
Ainda Estou Aqui (I’m still here) is based on the homonymous book by journalist and playwright Marcelo Rubens Paiva, published in 2015. The work portrays Eunice Paiva’s search for her husband, Rubens Paiva (played by Selton Mello), who disappeared during the military regime in Brazil.
The Oscar ceremony will be held on March 2, at 9 pm (Brazilian time), with transmission by TNT and the Max streaming service.
